The function of an ignition coil is to convert the low voltage from the vehicle’s battery (about 12 volts) into the very high voltage (20,000–50,000+ volts) required to produce a strong spark at the spark plug.
That spark then ignites the air–fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber, allowing the engine to run smoothly.
